Expressive Arts Therapy is a unique approach to self care, processing our emotions and navigating difficulties. Any form of creativity can be utilized, such as writing/storytelling, drama/play, visual art/photography, music/sound, and breath/movement. This facilitates access to our senses, giving a feeling of aliveness and connection with ourselves, others, and the world around us. This can also help us learn new strategies to calm our systems when we are feeling overwhelmed. Feeling in our bodies (some call embodiment) increases our acceptance of who we are, and gives us a grounding in an increasingly chaotic world. Expressive Arts is experimental and experiential. This does not mean being ‘good’ at art, or focussing on a finished product, but activating our imagination and being open to possibility and surprise.

The therapeutic journey is not about becoming our best self, but our true self.
